ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES DEPARTMENT


Functions of the department include:

  1. Curriculum development of courses offered in all the NCE-Awarding Institutions.
  2. Accreditation of courses for the award of NCE
  3. Making recommendations for the entry requirements and duration of courses.
  4. Laying down and reviewing, when necessary, Minimum Standards to be attained in teacher education.
  5. Undertaking evaluation and assessment of NCE In-Service Teacher Programme.
  6. Laying down assessment methods of students work for the award of NCE and other schedules as may be assigned from time to time.
  7. Advising the NCE Awarding Institutions on the requirements for establishing new programmes in the Colleges.
  8. Advising prospective proprietors on the requirements for establishing new colleges.
  9. Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.

Structure of the Department

The Department has five (5) Divisions as follows:

New Programmes and Institutions Division
Curriculum Development and Innovations Division
Accreditation Division
Standards and Certification Division
Verification Division

New Programmes and Institutions Division

Functions of the Division include:

  1. First point of contact for prospective proprietors of NCE Awarding institutions;
  2. Coordinate the evolution and sustenance of standards in new programmes and institutions in NCE Awarding Institutions;
  3. Refine from time to time guidelines for the establishment of new programmes and institutions;
  4. Prepare and publish roster for resource visits to new programmes and institutions after due approval from the commission’s hierarchy;
  5. Prepare Resource visit reports for consideration of NCCE management;
  6. Keep custody of resource visit records and reports
  7. Perform any function related to new programmes and institutions as shall be assigned by the Director.

Curriculum Development and Innovations Division

Functions of the Division include:

  1. Issue call for Curriculum review to Stakeholders;
  2. Collate, interpret and publish views of Stakeholders on NCE Curriculum;
  3. Prepare work-plans for the review of NCE Minimum Standards;
  4. Identify relevant resource persons for the review of the curriculum in each of the specialized areas;
  5. Coordinate the process of review of the NCE Minimum Standards in line with the work-plans;
  6. Conduct workshops for the review of the Curriculum; and
  7. Publish and circulate NCE Minimum Standards

Accreditation Division

Functions of the Division include:

  1. Process accreditation reports for presentation to NCCE Management;
  2. Keep up-to-date records of NCE Awarding institutions and their Accreditation Status;
  3. Prepare list of NCE Awarding institutions and their due dates for accreditation and re-accreditation;
  4. Inform NCE Awarding institutions on their accreditation status and their due dates for accreditation or re-accreditation;
  5. Advice the department from time to time on the type of accreditation arrangement to be adopted for institutions;
  6. Coordinate the publication of accreditation results of NCE Awarding institutions;
  7. Use available national and international best practice to rank NCE Awarding institutions; and
  8. Regularly review accreditation instrument in line with best practice

Standards and Certification Division

Functions of the Division include:

  1. Monitor examination processes and results in NCE awarding institutions;
  2. Liaise with Academic Boards of NCE awarding Institutions on matters of Standards and Certification;
  3. Serve as the Commission’s clearing house for certification of NCE graduates;
  4. Build and maintain a bank of Test items, Examination Questions and records of graduating students;
  5. Regularly evaluate and enforce external examination procedures and processes in the NCCE guidelines;
  6. Introduce and coordinate a general paper on Professional Competences for final year students of NCE awarding institutions;
  7. Determine and review Result Verification Instrument periodically; and
  8. Perform any other functions that can enhance quality of NCE graduates in line with NCCE mandate

Verification Division

Functions of the Division include:

  1. Conduct pre and post accreditation visits to NCE Awarding Institutions to ensure compliance with NCCE guidelines and recommendations
  2. Follow up on the recommendations of Accreditation teams and ensure compliance by Colleges of Education;
  3. Process verification reports submitted by teams and members;
  4. Refine from time to time the instrument of verification in line with global best practice;
  5. Prepare roster for verification exercise; and
  6. Keep custody of the verification records and reports
